Yearning for it...
Adrenaline Junkie - I won't sky dive but I sure like a good dose of runners high.Last week I injured my left hip flex. Even though I can manage to perform 99% of my daily activities without any pain from my injury... there are 2 very important things that I currently cannot do without experiencing excessive pain in my left hip: climbing stairs and running!
It was complete torture for me on Saturday to drive around the city and see joggers enjoying the first spring run of the year. At one point during the day, the gut wrenching knot in my stomach from the yearning of getting a good dose of runners high was so intense, I decided to attempt to do a light jog in a store parking lot (to test if I was healed enough to be able to go for a run). Unfortunately, only a couple steps in... my left hip was in pain. I don't know what hurt more... my hip or resisting the desire to burst into a full sprint. Running is just like anything else in life, there is nothing more intense and painful then being addicted to something that you can't have whenever you want it. It sucks even more if that addiction is actually good for you!
I wonder if there is a running simulator that I can use trick my brain into releasing the running endorphins until I'm healed? Running is probably one of the most electrifying workouts that I have ever experienced. For those of you familiar with the runners high you know what I'm talking about... for those of you who don't... you honestly have no idea what you are missing! It seriously is up very high on the list of awesome physical sensations that you can experience (I'm not exaggerating)!
Last week in yoga, after I released a couple of intense and lengthy poses, I had complete adrenaline rush into the areas of my body we had been working. I had never experienced that in yoga before and was surprised at my body's reaction to the workout... and it felt amazing. I'm not sure if I'm just more aware of my body now or if I have just never pushed myself hard enough to experience this when exercising. Until my hip flex is healed, I guess I'll have to settle for alternate modes of adrenaline.
Originally when I hurt myself, walking was painful... so I guess the fact that only stairs and running hurt now is considered progress? Here is hoping anyway. Until then... I beg my friends to stop writing about their awesome spring runs in their facebook status messages... YOU ARE KILLING ME (ok that is an exaggeration... but it is causing me discomfort *hahaha*)

Poor Michelle. Have you tried the 'pigeon pose' from yoga? I find it really helps my hips when they are hurting.
