Injuries suck... but what can you do?

Monday morning during my interval training, I had 2 more run segments left but the shooting pain in my left hipbone was so bad that I decided to walk the remainder of my workout (which bites because I still had the endurance and desire to finish). Two years ago... I injured my neck and shoulder. It was causing me to have constant headaches and pain so I stop working out for 1 month until it was healed... I didn't want that to happen this time... so I listened to my body... decided this pain was probably a sign that I could live without those 2 last interval sprints. I'm glad I made the decision to not push it.

The next day I went to see Devin for my weight training session and gave him the heads up on my injury so he could modify my workout. I showed him where my hip hurt and described the pain, he's pretty certain it's my hipflexer and possibly a bruised hipbone too. Devin encouraged me to not attend bootcamp this week and definitely not to do my interval running on the treadmill until the pain goes away. He said the best way to heal my hipflexer is to rest it. So this week is going to be a low-impact week. This doesn't mean I'm going to become lethargic with no exercise... I am an adrenaline junkie afterall... I just need to find alternate ways of getting my fix without slowing down my healing! Being the industrious person that I am... that shouldn't be a problem... I want to figure out a way to continuing my workout routine even if it has to be modified.

I'm doing extra hot yoga classes, doing the bike intervals instead of the treadmill and my weight training with Devin and Gina will be modified to not incorporate hip work. Devin had me boxing yesterday, which was a hoot! In my experience... changing things up always turns out to be a good thing... even though it's sometimes scary to try. It's so important to not get out of your grove but instead find alternate ways to get what you need without completely giving up.

I've only used our encumbant bike once (even though we've owned it for about 6 years), today I rocked it out! I had no idea what settings to pick, I chose intervals, I had the option of picking intensity of 1-9 so I opted for 7... I had my heartrate up as high as when I run and got a serious adrenaline rush from it. Plus my quads looked AMAZING while I was biking (of course I had to feel them)! It's interesting now that I automatically will pick levels that I think are going to challenge me. It's just like running, now I only do sprints at 7.0... a month ago I thought it wasn't possible... then I ran 7.0 and couldn't believe I had it in me.

I've never felt better in my entire life. I'm happy, healthy and have loads of energy. The thought of having to stop working out scared me on Monday because I know working out is what has improved my quality of life. The "new me" figured out a "work-around" to this injury. There is always a solution to every problem, if you want it bad enough!

This Saturday is weigh-in day after a month off the scales. *sigh* I've decided that once I reach my goal... I'll just use my clothes to measure that I'm staying on track... I know I should be doing that now... but the scale is like crack! FYI: If I don't blog how much I lost this month... don't ask about it! *hahaha*
