Hot stuff...
For months, my work-out partner Kelly has been going to heat yoga with her sister Kamia. After about 10 failed attempts for me to make it to a class, I finally got there tonight.
To be honest, before going I was somewhat concerned about what the experience was going to be like: 40 degree heat, 50 sweaty people in a class (lets hope no one eats a lot of spices) and then put yoga poses on top of that. Hmmmmm how is this going to be enjoyable?
Well I have to say... to my surprise... I loved it!
Yes... it certainly was hot and humid, the yoga studio did stink somewhat (especially since we were going into an enclosed room right after another group) but after a few minutes you didn't really notice anymore, the instructor was amazing (very positive and supportive) and the poses were all "do-able". The place was really clean and modern so even though the studio had a bit of a funk to it, it didn't feel gross, no worse then Nubody's after rush hour.
My only complaint is the guy that laid above me had stinky feet, after a couple minutes we moved to make room for other people and I had a couple feet between him and my nostrils... but at first his toes were inches from my head... I could even see the lint between his toes!
Did I sweat? Ahhhhhhh yah it was crazy! At one point the instructor said, "ok so we are almost done the warm-up" and I thought to myself... hmmmm I'm already dripping sweat onto my mat (to steal a saying from Devin - I thought to myself "This is going to get CRAZZZZZZZZZZZZZY!")

We even did this pose, but I have to say, none of us (Kelly, Kamia and I) looked as strained as the chick in this picture... obviously we are total Yogi Masters and this woman definitely requires more fiber in her diet.
My life is stressful (isn't everyone's?) and lately things that are bothering me have been creeping into my thought process while I jog... which SUCKS! But tonight during yoga, the instructor kept reminding us to shut out everything outside of the room and focus on breathing and the poses so that's what I did. For 1 hour I completely ESCAPED... much like I used to when I first started jogging. I've decided tomorrow morning to try to focus just on the run... and not let negative influences creep into MY TIME on the treadmill.
If anyone is interested in trying it... this is the yoga studio we went to on Dresden Row:

Forewarning... if you do go to this studio... they have a silence policy in the studio so that means... NO CHATTING (you could only imagine the self-control this took for me... I probably burned 100 calories just with the brain-effort involved to not make comments during the class)!
Wanda... if you are reading this... for the record I didn't even giggle *well yah I did grin and bob my head in a "silent giggle", but I did it without making any noises which is a major accomplishment* (Wanda was my first yoga partner who dumped me after a failed attempt to take yoga seriously - obviously I've evolved since then)! hahaha And in my defense... there was this old dude in our class who was either farting or snoring (sometimes both)... I know all noises are welcome in yoga but seriously who can resist a good chuckle in those types of circumstances!
Sarah... for sure... you are coming next time! There is no doubt... you'll freakin' love it!
