Fate or Luck?
Do you ever think about the chain of events in your life and wonder... was it fate or luck when you met someone new?
This morning when I was on the treadmill at 5am jogging my 5km, I was thinking of how lucky I am to have so many great people in my life. Among many important people, I thought of Devin and Gina Sherrington... which inspired me to write this note. Meeting Devin and Gina changed the course of my life in a significant way, probably extended my life and improved my well-being in an immeasurable way.
A couple years ago, I had 2 tickets to see a client's comedy entertainment show in Chester. I almost didn't go, it was foggy and rainy, it was going to be a long drive, I was tired, honestly I was coming up with almost every excuse possible to not go, but my friend going with me was 9 months pregnant and we went in hopes some laughter my induce labour (which it didn't)!
While we waited for the show to start, we noticed the couple sitting in-front of us that were ultra-fit. During the show, the ultra fit-guy was called up on stage for an interview... he was a personal trainer and his name was Devin Sherrington. He had such a positive outlook on working-out and getting started on a new routine. He didn't seem like a big meat head (I know bad stereotype but an honest one), he didn't seem like someone that would judge me for letting my body go, and I was positive he could help me. I left the show inspired and feeling like it was time for me to make a change in my life. The next day, I sent him an email which then changed the course of my life forever. Devin and I had a lot in common, we both loved to talk about business and marketing so most of my work-outs with Devin, we would talk about the new business he and his wife were starting (www.360online.ca). When we first met, the one thing we didn't have in common was his love for working out. For the first couple of months that I worked out with Devin I wondered why I was doing this to myself. But I had made the commitment to keep doing it for 6 months and I didn't give up. Later that year, Janet and I helped brand and develop an image for Devin and Gina's new business. And now, I'm at the point where I actually consider Devin and Gina more than my trainers, more than my clients, they are great friends too. As the years have passed, we actually do have more in common as well, we all like to workout.
Who could have predicted that these strangers who happen to sit directly in front of me in a large crowd would become an important part of my life. It's amazing to think of the positive impact someone can have on your life. I think it definitely was a combination of fate and luck that Devin, Gina and I met.
There are so many friends out there that I'm thankful for... too many to list... but I know one thing is for sure... I'm a pretty lucky person. I hope that I have the ability to impact people in a way that my friends have an impact on me! Really, what could be more satisfying in life then knowing your existence improves those around you.

Believe me when I say... you guys were a big part of it all... I would never have known how to push myself (its not an instinct I was aware of) until I saw the results from you pushing me... it only started in the last couple of months where I am now competing with myself to improve my running times and increasing the intensity on my own... so that... Read More is a step in the right direction. I remember last year, Devin and I discussing the running competition you have with each other around the lake and I told him I thought you guys were wacked out... but now I get it! It is fun to see how fast and far you can push yourself.
