Adrenaline Junkie
I am now officially addicted to adrenaline. If I don't manage to get my heart rate up high enough each day to get my fix... I am agitated until I do. This morning Kelly and I went out to exercise and it was cold, rainy and honestly too slippery on the boardwalk to even do a brisk walk. We walked our normal 4km jog/walk interval route but couldn't really enjoy it because it was freezing rain the entire time (I swear a few pellets of hail hit my face at one point). It didn't help that I wasn't dressed for the weather. Kelly was smart and had a rain jacket on, but I on the other hand went with just 2 layers of shirts like I normally do.
This afternoon, knowing I didn't push myself as hard as I should this morning... I went back to the boardwalk to redo the 4km jog (but dressed more appropriately this time). The rain had held up for a couple hours this afternoon and I figured with all the wind, the boardwalk had probably dried up enough to run. To my delight the boardwalk was dry and I managed to crank my heart rate up to 168 and 173 beats/minute on the jog intervals with a recovery of about 40 beats during the walks. By some miracle (actually it probably was the green tea and ephedrine I consumed today)… I shaved 1 minute off my best time ever completing 3.2km of intervals in 26 mins and 34 seconds (usually its about 28 mins) and my heart rate during the cool down got down to 100 beats per minute (this never happens to me).
Kelly and I have somewhat of a fan club at the boardwalk where we jog every morning. There are about a dozen regular people that we see exercising each morning and a number of 60+ year old men who always smile and wave when they see us coming... this afternoon I discovered the reason why they enjoy watching us run so much... it’s the bounce in our step. This afternoon when I was jogging I managed to completely turn down the volume on my iPod just from the bounce of my boobs... can you say... time for a new jogging bra?
My friends Paula and Angela ran their first 1/2 marathon this weekend and I just can't help but think of them now everytime I run. At this point, I don't have the desire to run a 1/2 marathon... I'm happy with my 4km ... but I'm so proud of them for completing it this weekend... it took a lot of hard work and I honestly will bow at their feet next time I see them! I can only imagine how they felt when they crossed the finish line because I know when I finish my run I'm on a high the rest of the day and my accomplishment is only a fraction of what they achieved this weekend. It's amazing to think how much Devin has had such a positive impact on all of our lives and that the Booty Girls from his bootcamp are kicking some serious fitness butt! Even though we curse him during bootcamp, I'm positive it helps us all to want to persue fitness goals beyond what we ever thought we would. I swore I'd never be a jogger... now look at me... I want to do it everyday!
